By John Pierce

ROME, Ga. — An anonymous gift of $325,000 to Shorter College will support the endowment of the Floyd F. Roebuck Chair of Christian Ministry. Roebuck was the founding director of the Hugh F. Davis Center for Ministry Education at the Baptist college in northwest Georgia.

Roebuck retired after more than 30 years as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Rome, Ga., considered Shorterıs mother church, and served as director of the Davis Center from 1995 until 2002. He has also spent the last five years as pastor of Garden Lakes Baptist Church in Rome.

A professorship chair requires an endowment of $500,000 according to college officials. Robert Shippey, current director of Shorterıs Davis Center said: "With a gift of this magnitude ($325,000), the establishment of the chair is secure, and Dr. Roebuckıs name will be associated with Shorter College in perpetuity."
